About the Tutor

Garry Smith is passionate about bridge; he has been playing Contract Bridge for the last 23 years. He is currently President of the Ipswich City Bridge Club and Treasurer of the Ipswich Contract Bridge Club.

Garry wants to introduce more people to the wonderful world of Bridge, thereby giving them an opportunity to meet others in a friendly and healthy environment.   Garry says that “it’s an excellent game to learn and it’s always a good ice breaker – you can play bridge anywhere in the world”.

About the Class

Garry will be teaching the “Standard American System” of Bridge.  Any person that has a love of card playing can learn and of those who have played 500 or Euchre previously, then they would find it easy to learn the basics.  Once you have learned the basics of bridge, then you can join any Bridge Club throughout Australia and be gladly welcomed.

A number of studies indicate that maintaining strong social connections and keeping mentally active as we age might lower the risk of cognitive decline. It is recognised that all mind games especially Bridge can help to forestall the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.
